Retail Sales in the Euro Area Fall As Expected

Retail sales in the Euro Area dropped by 0.8% from a month earlier in February, following down from a 0.8% jump in January but matching market expectations.

  • Equity markets don’t seem concerned as all major indices were in the green halfway through the first trading day after a 4-day holiday weekend. Frances CAC is seeing the biggest gains up 67 points, or 0.92%, while Germany and the U.K. are up 0.68 and 0.41%, respectively.

ASIA: Equity markets were mostly positive on Tuesday thanks to reports that Warren Buffet is considering additional investments in Japan’s major trading houses which pushed the Nikkei up 90 points, or 1.26%, to end the day. China’s Heng Seng index jumped 154 points while the Shanghai index was barely in the red with a 1.79-point drop.
