Even though lumber prices have bounced around these last two weeks, prices are still close to all-time highs, impacting home prices across the country and globe.

As a rational person, you would probably think the U.S. is doing everything in its power to lower the price of such an important commodity, but you would, in fact, be wrong…

“In particular, various outlets reported that Commerce has published preliminary findings in the second AD/CVD administrative review, more than doubling the combined duty rate on Canadian lumber imported into the United States” (CATO)

That’s a post from Scott Lincicome’s post over at CATO discussing the news that the Commerce Department doubled the tariffs on lumber coming in from Canada. Nothing says helping the American people quite like doubling the duties on the most important commodity used in combating our severe undersupplied housing market…
